At the market- Bus Stop

One of my favorite things to watch at the market is the "bus stop."  There are no signs or benches.  The bus stop is only an intersection at the market where the buses are loaded and unloaded with passengers and cargo.  There's usually lots of noise and activity involved, and it's pretty entertaining.

Walking to the Market

 Last Saturday, a group of us walked to the market.

There were six of us total.

We saw some good looking papaya for sale by the side of the road.
Some produce comes and goes depending on the season, but there is always papaya.

Some of the available goods:

Salted fish
Dried strips of ginger
Unroasted coffee beans
Roasted ground coffee
(too bad the coffee is not good quality)
A local plant
A local seaoning- I was told that it's good for cooking grean beans.
Dried, ground okra
There are paper cones with some dried hibiscus flowers, and in the bucket in the background is more dried hibiscus.  You can make a juice or tea with the dried flowers.

We all bought fabric before the shopping trip was through.

Stephen doesn't make it to the market very often, so I had to document his trip to the look for certain things in the hardware stores.

Market Day

There is a local market that is open two days a week.

I haven't had a chance to go, but another visitor was kind enough to share photos.

Fabric Shopping

One of the things I love to do is go fabric shopping.
I'm always happy to show new people the market, and I usually find a little something to buy, too.

Shoe Repair

Ian wore out his shoes last spring. We couldn't buy a replacement pair here in Congo. But there are shoe repairmen around town. He used some glue and some strong string, and the shoes were as good as new!

Fresh Meat: This man has purchased a duck to eat.With no refrigeration, many people try to keep their meet alive as long as possible.
